CENTR Code of Conduct

Our pledge

The CENTR community is committed to providing a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for all members, contributors and participants. We invite all those who participate in the CENTR community to help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone.

Our standards

This Code of Conduct applies to all CENTR events (both in-person and online), communication and all community activities organised by and within CENTR, including mailing lists and other communication channels and platforms.

We expect all CENTR Community members and participants to:

  • Be respectful and patient. Not all of us will agree all the time, but disagreement is no excuse for poor behaviour.
  • Be kind to others. Avoid insults, derogatory remarks, or disrespectful behavior towards fellow participants. Treat everyone with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Be careful in the words that you choose. Sexist, racist, ageist, ableist and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow community members. Alert CENTR staff and meeting hosts if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, even if they seem inconsequential.

Unacceptable behavior from any community member or participant will not be tolerated. We ask all CENTR community members to stay clear from:

  • Any derogatory or discriminatory speech or conduct related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, age, medical condition or disability.
  • Any public or private harassment, including unwelcome sexual attention and unwelcome physical contact.

If a community member or participant engages in unacceptable behavior, CENTR may take any action it deems appropriate, including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion from the community without warning.

Reporting

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behaviour, or have any other concerns, please notify our response team as soon as possible at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or get in touch with an individual response team member:

The response team is composed of a CENTR Board member, a Chair or Vice-Chair of a Working Group and two (2) CENTR staffers.

All reports will be kept confidential and all response team members are trained for handling reports. The response team will respond to all reports within three (3) business days. Once the final response action is determined, the original reporter will be contacted and informed of any action taken. If one of the response team members is a potential offender or subject of the report, they will be removed from the investigation.

Additionally, dedicated CENTR staffers and meeting hosts are available to help community members engage with local law enforcement or help those experiencing unacceptable behavior to feel safe. In the context of in-person events, CENTR staff and hosts will provide escorts as desired by the person experiencing distress.
