Will ccTLDs maintain their strong link to national identity? Bringing digital identities to life: social networks and/or domain names?
Panel discussion with Dan Rodgers (GoDaddy), Rémi Loiseau (OVH), David Fowler (CIRA) and Oonagh McCutcheon (IEDR), moderated by Alexandrine Gauvin (CENTR).
Google, Facebook and many other platforms have made it infinitely easier for internet users to create online identities. Despite this real challenge, the domain name industry is still standing strong and have maintained its relevance throughout big changes in the last decade. However, as these platforms continue to grow and consolidate, how can domain names be promoted as digital identity and marketing tools? How can the industry highlight its competitive advantage? This panel discussion will try to tap into the creative minds of registries and registrars to find and learn about solutions to turn pure domain names into active website and email addresses as seamlessly as possible.

Data protection regulation: implementation challenges for registries and registrars
Led by Peter Van Roste, CENTR
Thanks to the looming deadline, the implementation of the GDPR requirements caught the full attention of both registries and registrars. While most of the new or updated rules can be dealt with internally, some aspects require collaboration between both parties. This session focus on three business cases where that collaboration will be essential. Participants are invited to join the discussion and contribute their experience and best practices. ICANN will also provide an overview of their activities to date.
Case study 1: Certification Authorities' views, with Nick France (Comodo)
Case study 2: eco’s suggestion for collaboration, with Lars Steffen (Eco)
Case study 3: Is there a need for a standard contractual clause? (CENTR)
