The DomainWire Global TLD Stat Report (Q1/2017) is now available. The report covers the global status and registration trends in all top-level domains (legacy gTLDs, new gTLDs and ccTLDs) with additional focus on the European ccTLD market. Highlights from the report:
- Global domains (across all TLDs ) grew a combined 0.5% to 311 million
- Market share of new gTLDs is 8% of global domain names; they cover around 2.4% of locally registered domains in Europe
- Highest growth among European ccTLDs was .pt (Portugal) at 3.3%
- Average ccTLD renewal rate over 2016 was 81%
- Of the new gTLDs, .men grew the highest at 155%, to around 240K domains at the end of the quarter
- .loan performed well, growing 116% and has one of the lowest rates of parked domains among the top 10 new gTLDs
- Average renewals over the top 300 new gTLDs is at 62% (renewal rate calculated with a 3 month lag)
