CENTR holds its 64th General Assembly online

News 19-10-2020

On 7 October 2020 CENTR held it’s 64th General Assembly, reducing the usual full day meeting in Brussels to a virtual morning session.

Part of the morning was dedicated to internal matters, including the approval of next year’s budget and strategy. CENTR has many exciting projects planned for 2021, including a new focus on sustainability. The General Assembly also approved Registry Services, LLC’s (formerly Neustar) Associate Membership application, for the .co, .us and .biz TLDs. The CENTR secretariat and its wider community wish to re-welcome our newest member on board!

The second half of the meeting focused on registry and project updates, such as domain name checks and auction systems as well as CENTR’s sustainability plans. Finally, CENTR premiered its new animated video on Domain names and online content, which is based on our issue paper of the same name. The video specifically targets audiences who are not familiar with what a ccTLD registry is, and outlines the role and technical capabilities of the DNS, ccTLDs and their role in the internet ecosystem.

Barbara Povše, the chair of CENTR’s Board of Directors reflected on her first six months as chair, calling on registries to embrace their uniqueness and remain connected in these virtual times. "The one word to describe the last half a year would have to be change. We are experiencing the strangest, most hectic and most trying situation of this era, one that no one could ever have predicted. This has forced us to rethink all aspects of our lives, globally, nationally and individually, but it also brings with it an opportunity to grow CENTR’s potential and to improve ourselves, as registries and as individuals".
